Mupirocin Fluticasone Ointment for dogs and cats is a combination topical medication to manage certain localised skin infections accompanied by inflammation. It contains mupirocin, an antibiotic that targets specific bacteria, and fluticasone, a corticosteroid that helps reduce redness, itching, and swelling.

Many skin infections in pets can look similar. Allergies, fungal infections, mites, hormonal disorders, and bacterial infections may all cause redness and itching. A proper veterinary diagnosis is essential before starting any topical treatment.

Mupirocin fluticasone works through a dual-action mechanism.

Mupirocin stops the growth of susceptible bacteria by interfering with bacterial protein production. Fluticasone reduces inflammation, itching, redness, and skin irritation. The medication helps improve comfort while the underlying cause of the skin problem is simultaneously treated.

The mechanism is identical in cats. Mupirocin clears the infection; Fluticasone reduces the inflammation. One caution specific to cats: Fluticasone, like other topical steroids, may reactivate feline herpesvirus when applied near the face or eyes. The Mupirocin Fluticasone Ointment dosage for dogs is a thin layer applied to the affected area twice daily. Before each application, clean the area with a mild antiseptic or saline solution and let it dry. Cover the lesion and 1-2 cm of surrounding skin. The ointment needs at least 10 minutes of contact time. Prevent licking for 20 to 30 minutes after each application. Maximum treatment duration is 30 days.

Puppies need closer monitoring because their skin barrier is still developing. Prolonged corticosteroid use carries a slightly higher risk of skin thinning.

Small breeds like Shih Tzus, Pomeranians, and Chihuahuas are prone to skin fold infections and facial pyoderma. An Elizabethan collar (e-collar) is recommended to prevent licking, as small dogs can easily reach most body areas.

Mild localised irritation or temporary itching may occur. If a cat licks the ointment, drooling and digestive upset can follow. Contact the nearest cat doctor if vomiting or worsening symptoms develop.

Store at room temperature (20°C to 25°C), away from sunlight and moisture, in the original tightly closed tube, and out of reach of children and pets. Do not use past the expiry date.
